Exhibition "L'inassèchement" by Miquel Barceló : Opening in presence of the artist.
In 1983, he made his first trip to Africa, living in the city of Gao in Mali. From this point onwards, Barceló divided his time between Paris and Majorca with prolonged and solitary periods in Mali living amongst the locals. These visits were periods of experimentation where Barceló made his own pigments using the local earth and created the first examples of his famous drawings devoured by termites. In 1993, he began to develop important sculptural works in bronze, plaster and ceramics. Over the following years the latter would come to play a large role in his oeuvre.
