Tracing a career spanning nearly 50 years, this retrospective exhibition devoted to Samuel Fosso brings together, for the first time in France, all of his series. Combining the photographic medium, the genre of self-portraiture and performance art, Samuel Fosso's work is now at the center of the international contemporary art scene. His work has been included in the collections of the greatest museums: Tate Modern in London, Centre Georges Pompidou, Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac... and is now gathered in Paris by the Maison Européenne de la Photographie.
The Cameroonian-born photographer disguises himself and embodies all kinds of characters that allow him to destroy stereotypes and cross social, geographical or temporal boundaries. Through more than 300 prints and confidential works, the exhibition gives an account of the artistic work and personal journey of Samuel Fosso.
