By turns criticised and adored by critics, Vincenzo Gemito managed to create, sculpt and produce numerous works despite the recurrence of crises of madness. After his death, he gradually disappeared from history, until he was relegated to the rank of a picturesque artist. However, he undoubtedly caught the attention of Rodin and perhaps even Degas.
