Master prints at the Petit Palais

Ambroise Vollard and the publishing business

Description

On the occasion of the exhibition "Limited Edition, Vollard, Petiet and the Master Print", take advantage of your pass to enter the Petit Palais! The exhibition highlights the work of the emblematic art dealer Ambroise Vollard, who worked with the greatest artists of his time: Picasso, Bonnard, Cassatt, Chagall, Maillol, Redon, Rouault, and many others, as a publisher of prints and illustrated books.

To know

Ambroise Vollard (1866-1939), an extraordinary figure in the art market, quickly distinguished himself by his audacity! Passionate about publishing, he invested most of his fortune from the sale of modern masters and raised this activity to an unprecedentedly high level. Benefiting from numerous gifts and bequests from Vollard himself and his heirs, the Petit Palais has chosen to showcase this exceptional collection of prints, illustrated books, publishing objects, bronzes and ceramics.
The exhibition pays a double tribute as it is also an opportunity to evoke the personality of Henri Marie Petiet, Vollard's successor. Henri Marie Petiet (1894-1980) bought the Vollard gallery's collection at the end of the war. Discoverer of talents such as André Dunoyer de Segonzac or Aristide Maillol, he became a major figure of the post-war print trade.
