Private visit to the Fondation Dubuffet

Exhibition "Dubuffet / Villeglé, A poster in the city"

Description

CultureSecrets offers you a private visit to the Fondation Dubuffet: one of the few institutions in France whose founder was the artist himself. You will dive into the exhibition "Dubuffet / Villeglé, A poster in the city" which looks at a little-known aspect of the artist's work : Dubuffet as a poster artist.

To know

Jean Dubuffet set up his own Foundation, which brings together some 2,500 of his works, to ensure respect for his work, but also to keep a significant body of his work grouped together and accessible to the public.

From 1944 until his death in 1985, Dubuffet designed a hundred posters to accompany his personal exhibitions in Europe and the United States. His posters invaded Paris, so much so that in 1975 Jacques Villeglé appropriated one of them by tearing it from its support to incorporate it into his own work. You will discover in particular Dubuffet's hourloupian character, which became one of the pivots of Villeglé's experimental film Un mythe dans la ville (A Myth in the City), and the starting point of a ten-year correspondence between these two artists.
