Following the footsteps of glass artists between Venice and France, unravel the mysteries of the art of enameled and gilded glass during the Renaissance, presented in the apartments of Catherine de Medici at the Château d'Ecouen.
Linked to a series of technical innovations, such as crystallo, a glass of great purity is developed in Venice in the mid-fifteenth century. Its success quickly led to the appearance of workshops working in the Venetian style in Europe. To meet the growing demand, they produced copies and even fakes! In order to untangle the Venetian from the "Venetian way", the exhibition of the National Museum of the Renaissance, co-produced with the RMN-GP, proposes a new approach.
The exhibition introduces the secrets of glass making and the art of fire. It presents the complexity and refinement of the forms and decorations combining glass, gilding and enamel. It also explores the geographical origin and dating of certain masterpieces. The visitor can then understand the role of glass in the scientific, economic, artistic and cultural fields.
More than 120 pieces from prestigious collections will be presented in the apartments of Catherine de Medici at the Château d'Écouen. This is an opportunity for a brilliant getaway less than an hour from Paris!
