A touching play at the Ateliers Berthier

at the Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe

Description

[IN FRENCH ONLY] A touching play that explores, with tenderness and humor at times, what society tries to hide from our eyes: the end of life. Attend "Une mort dans la famille" at the Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe with your CultureSecrets tickets.

To know

After Love, then Faith, Hope and Charity, Alexander Zeldin continues his exploration of social realities for his first creation in French. With his troupe of professional and amateur actors, the British director observes and recounts the daily life of an EPHAD, while weaving a very personal tale. I would like," says Alexander Zeldin, "to make these people feel their lives through theater, to tell how mourning and absence give shape to life, how the dead are sometimes more alive than the living.

There is Alice, in her fifties, struggling to make ends meet, her children Alex and Oliv'. And then there is Marguerite, their 84 year old grandmother, played by Marie Christine Barrault, who in the evening of her life does not want to enter a retirement home. Everywhere, the shadow of the father for whom they have not mourned. For the two teenagers, it is not easy to blossom under these conditions. For Marguerite, it is not easy to leave the family home forever. Alice oscillates between guilt and desire to let her go. But they all share the same desire: to take care of each other.
