Joana Vasconcelos was born in 1971 and is a visual artist renowned for her monumental installations. She is probably one of the most important artists of her generation, and the youngest to have exhibited at the Château de Versailles. She is also the first Portuguese artist to be exhibited at the Guggenheim Bilbao in a major retrospective. It was one of the most attended exhibitions in the museum's history. After breaking the attendance record at the Château de Versailles with over 1.6 million visitors, she chose to install her "Tree of Life" at the Château de Vincennes. A monumental work, representing a laurel 13 meters high, composed of more than 100 000 leaves all woven by hand. A titanic work that aims to sublimate this Gothic monument built in 1552.
This installation also echoes the mythological figure of Daphne turning into a tree to escape Apo
