Your excursion to the castle of Angers!

Visit the medieval fortress with the CMN

The days are getting longer, the temperatures are rising... it's almost summer! For the summer season, CultureSecrets and the Centre des monuments nationaux invite you to discover the magnificent monuments of our regions: first stop the medieval castle of Angers and its new exhibition "Comptoirs du monde: les feitorias portugaises, XVe-XVIIe siècles".

To know

The castle of Angers was in turn the count's palace of an English dynasty, the impregnable fortress of the kingdom of France, the iconic residence of the famous King René, or even a prison castle. It dominates the city from its rocky spur occupied by man since the Neolithic era!
The castle is home to the Tapestry of the Apocalypse, a true comic book of the Middle Ages. Commissioned in 1375 by Duke Louis I, it is by its size, its age, and its stylistic and technical virtuosity, a unique treasure in the world. The enclosure also has 20,000 m2 of remarkable and very diverse gardens which, from the top of the ramparts, offer a unique panorama of the city.

The most of your visit this summer? The exhibition "Counters of the World: Portuguese feitorias, 15th-17th centuries". You can discover the artistic productions that were born from the Portuguese feitorias, as well as navigation objects and documents explaining the exploitation of the trading posts, which illustrate the beginnings of the colonial period in Africa.
