CultureSecrets invites you to an exceptional guided tour in the heart of the National Archives! More than 200 years of history are classified and preserved in this place which crossed the wars and the political movements of our contemporary history. This visit will be punctuated by the exceptional presentation of papyri from the Merovingian and Carolingian eras, never before revealed to the public.


To know

Created in 1790 during the French Revolution, the National Archives collect and classify the writings of the State from the 7th century to the present day, the minutes of notaries as well as the private archives entrusted to the institution. Millions of documents are thus preciously maintained, their historical and patrimonial values are invaluable. 
The PapMedAn project (Medieval Paryrus of the National Archives) is interested in the study of written materials used in the Merovingian period and takes as its starting point a corpus of some forty documents preserved at the National Archives in Paris, all written on papyrus in a chronological range between the first quarter of the seventh century and the end of the ninth century, in Western Europe.
