Funk and Jazz concert : From Cuba to New Orleans

Cimafunk invites Fred Wesley / Tank and the Bangas to the Grande Halle de la Villette

Summer is not about to end, enjoy an evening under the hottest funk latitudes with the bubbling American collective Tank and the Bangas and the great Cuban revelation Cimafunk, which offers the companionship of Fred Wesley, former musical director of James Brown. Jazz à la Villette extends your summer with a wide range of music in which the cutting edge rubs shoulders with the unexpected. Indian summer or not, the festival co-produced by La Villette and the Philharmonie de Paris lights up the fall season and lets all the nuances of jazz shine.

Tank and the Bangas, a group formed a little over ten years ago by the charismatic Tarriona "Tank" Ball, is a modern and classy mix of soul and funk. This energizing potion was already producing its full effect on Green Balloon, their second album released in 2019. Three years later, the formula is still magical and Tank and the Bangas go red with a Red Balloon capturing the collective energy of the band at its best.

Erick Iglesias Rodríguez (a.k.a. Cimafunk) enjoyed tremendous success upon the release of his first self-produced album in 2017 and especially with the song "Me Voy," which was played in heavy rotation on the island's radio stations. His second album, El Alimento, recorded in the U.S. under the guidance of Kendrick Lamar's producer Jack Splash, features some notable guests, starting with George Clinton himself. A way to reinforce the links that his songs weave between traditional Cuban rhythms and an American funk seasoned with hip-hop. For the first time, Cimafunk will be joined on stage by American trombonist and arranger Fred Wesley, former musical director of James Brown, who called him "the funkiest trombone player ever".
