A photographic evening at the Polka Galerie

Discover the new exhibitions of Alexander Gronsky and Toshio Shibata

On the occasion of the Month of Photography, CultureSecrets invites you to discover in private, the two new exhibitions of the Polka Galerie, institution of contemporary photography: "Something Is Going On Here" by Alexander Gronsky and "Boundary Hunt" by Toshio Shibata.

To know

In his exhibition "Something Is Going On Here," Alexander Gronsky examines how his fellow citizens continue to live since Vladimir Putin began invading Ukraine. The exhibition opens with an image of a pro-Kremlin demonstration in the heart of the Russian capital. Alexander Gronsky responds to these cries of support with silent, refined, subtle, sometimes ironic paintings in which Muscovites appear like extras in a play.
Toshio Shibata, a Japanese photographer, has devoted his entire career to landscape. It was on his return to Japan in 1979, after training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium, that he found his favorite theme: infrastructure. Dams, suspension bridges, land reinforcements and other developments mesmerize him. With the exhibition "Boundary Hunt", Shibata reinvents the staging of his work. In this exhibition, Shibata reinvents the staging of his work. He is used to a contemplative scenography, but in this exhibition he wants to put the photographs in relation to each other in order to create a visual dialogue.
