Discover the animation work of Japanese artist Sawako Kabuki

CultureSecrets invites you to a private visit to the Miyu Gallery which presents the work of one of its international artists, the Japanese Sawako Kabuki. For her first solo exhibition in Europe, this young animated film director presents some twenty previously unpublished prints and animation loops from her unabashed pop universe. Four of her short films: Anal Juke, Master Blaster, Summer's Puke is Winter's Delight and Takoyaki Story are shown in the gallery's projection space.

Sawako Kabuki's films are known for tackling sometimes taboo subjects without being encumbered by any modesty: toxic relationships, bulimia, menstruation, body taboos... But she goes beyond provocation to tackle head-on what is usually shameful or hidden. Her graphic style is immediately recognizable for its use of intense and captivating colors that resonate with the feelings of fascination and repulsion that her films can provoke. His works feature nudity and sexuality in animations that are sometimes as comical as they are repulsive. As the main subjects of his plastic works, we often find waves of tiny characters, similar to bodily fluids, swarming under the skin, teeth and nails of naked bodies, where they are scraped, plucked, defecated...
