#SHOW This year, the festival 100% organized by La Villette, program “Madrigals”, the striking musical show by Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe. A new staging of Monteverdi's famous “Madrigali warriori et amorosi”, the director transforms sparkling vocal works about war and love into a cry for freedom fueled by passion and fighting spirit.
In “Madrigals” past, present and future merge through a utopian and radical story where eight naked performers and three musicians reappropriate the songs of Claudio Monteverdi.
While thinking of the ancient Greeks, Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe creates a contemporary and uninhibited orgy, in which the boundaries between the human and the divine blur. "Madrigals" thus presents a community brimming with uniqueness and talent in which dogma and conservative stigma give way to sexuality and freedom.
Another specificity: the artists on stage come from all walks of life and only two are trained singers. And little more and not least, this musical show is animated by the score of the Venezuelan composer Doon Kanda aka Jesse Kanda, known in particular for his work with Björk, Arca and FKA Twigs.
