To know

The Hôtel de la Marine is an incredible architectural ensemble created in the 18th century by Ange-Jacques Gabriel, the King's first architect. Until 1798, it housed the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne before becoming, for more than two hundred years, the headquarters of the Naval Staff. In 2015, the Ministry of the Navy left the Hôtel de la Marine in Paris to join the new site of the Ministry of Defense in the south of Paris. The monument was then entrusted to the Centre des monuments nationaux. The aim is to restore the building and bring visitors back to the time of the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne when it was built in the 18th century. The renovation of the building will last from 2017 to June 2021, date of inauguration of the restored steward's apartments, the reception rooms and the loggia.
Since November 18, 2021, a third space has been inaugurated, the Al Thani Foundation, which presents the inaugural exhibition "Treasures of the Al Thani Collection" with a rich diversity of works representing many civilizations and covering a period of more than 5000 years.
